The Mount Isa province in Northwest Queensland is a strongly mineralised Proterozoic inlier surrounded by Phanerozoic sedimentary basins which postdate the major basement mineral systems. So by understanding the distribution and thickness of the unmineralised sediments we can reduce uncertainty involved in exploration through cover.
In between running magnetotelluric (MT) acquisition programs I recently managed to find some time to do a bit of inversion and interpretation work. The dataset I focused on was from the CF23 MT survey the Geological Survey of Queensland collected last year with the help of Geoscience Australia [link]. These MT profiles were conducted along the 14GA-CF2 and 14GA-CF3 seismic lines. The results are in a newly submitted paper to the special edition of Exploration Geophysics about MT in Australia.
A new economy?
The GSQ Open Data Portal (ODP) has received an upgrade! The biggest feature of which, is that you are now reading this article. The ODP team have implemented, alongside some stability, basic function and background fixes, a system for the publication of news, articles and announcements. This new system creates new opportunities for the ODP team as well as the GSQ to share a direct line of communication with you, the users of the portal. The GSQ plans to use the space to keep users up to date with events and projects that the GSQ are involved in.
Last month GSQ hosted a two-day Technical Workshop in Townsville with approximately 100 people taking part each day (70 in person, 30 online).
Thirty talks were presented by various GSQ staff, academic collaborators and industry.
