The GIS Data Set covers the south-central coastal part of Queensland between Mackay in the north, Gladstone in the east, Blackwater in the west and Mundubbera in the south. It includes rocks of the Calliope Volcanic Arc, Yarrol Forearc Basin, Coastal Block, Auburn Arch, Connors Arch, Marlborough Block, part of the Bowen Basin including the Gogango Overfolded Zone, Mulgildie Basin, part of the Surat Basin and Tertiary basins including the Biloela, Duaringa and Herbert Creek Basins. The GIS is the result of two projects conducted by the Geological Survey of Queensland in the late 1990s, the Yarrol Project and the South Connors-Auburn Gogango (SCAG) Project. The purpose of these projects was to update knowledge of the geology, tectonic evolution and metallogenesis to attract and assist mineral exploration.
