Each year the Collaborative Exploration Initiative (CEI) supports innovative new exploration projects that generate public data and further mineral discovery in Queensland.
The initiative aims to open new areas up for exploration and encourage the sharing of ideas and resources between explorers. CEI Round 6, which ran from March to December 2022, supported twelve excellent projects.
Some CEI Round 6 highlights included:
A 30,000+ line kilometre airborne magnetic survey undertaken for the Northern Chillagoe – Palmerville Region. The survey, completed by Native Mineral Resources Pty Ltd, was flown at 80 metre line spacing over a package of 10 EPMs, infilling the regional 400 metre spacing. Further information can be found at https://geoscience.data.qld.gov.au/data/report/cr139598
Aeon Walford Creek Pty Ltd completed a 1000 line -kilometre HeliTEM survey covering 22 kilometres of strike to delineate the Fish River Fault on either side of the Walford Creek deposit (50 kilometres west-northwest of Doomadgee). The data helped delineate the regional stratigraphy and identify further targets along fault splays. Further information can be found at https://geoscience.data.qld.gov.au/data/report/cr138517
Yarraman Metals Pty Ltd undertook a unique machine learning-driven soil sampling program using Voroni Mesh Analysis iteratively updated with real-time portable XRF data. This resulted in the discovery of the Battle Ridge Cu-Au prospect in the Southern Georgetown Inlier. Further information can be found at https://geoscience.data.qld.gov.au/data/report/cr138527
Five drilling programs were also undertaken throughout CEI Round 6, and this core will be available for public viewing and research in January 2024.
Demetallica Pty Ltd (formally Minotaur Resources Pty Ltd) characterised a zoned iron-sulphide-copper-gold system through drilling and downhole EM at the Electra Prospect six kilometres northeast of the Eloise copper-gold mine. The study confirmed that in these pyrrhotite-rich systems, the copper-rich portion of the system is not the strongest conductor. Further information can be found at https://geoscience.data.qld.gov.au/data/report/cr138460

Red Fox Resources Pty Ltd drilled five diamond holes testing the Eveleigh lead-zinc-silver prospect for BHT/ Cannington-style mineralisation in what was previously considered a skarn. The prospect is 45 kilometres east of Georgetown. Further information can be found at https://geoscience.data.qld.gov.au/data/report/cr138515

In between running magnetotelluric (MT) acquisition programs I recently managed to find some time to do a bit of inversion and interpretation work. The dataset I focused on was from the CF23 MT survey the Geological Survey of Queensland collected last year with the help of Geoscience Australia [link
